Tomsyck > The 237th engineer battalion barracks taken from the grape vineyards outside of Wharton Barracks.

Tomsyck > This is the cross monument on Wharton Barracks, commemorating Polish people that died during World War II. The monument was erected in 1945/46 and was classified in 1998 as a cultural monument. It was moved to another location due to the opening of the Schwabenhof Business Park in 1999, where it received a new foundation in a nice setting.

Tomsyck > This is the HHC 237th Engineer Battalion barracks in October 1987, right when the building renovations began. Note the GP medium tent airing out in the foreground - an indicator that the 237th just got back from a manouver.

Tomsyck > This is one of the HHC 237th Engineer Battalion's 'water rats' truck - a water purification unit - that crashed into a private house front garden in Flein, Germany in 198? (probably 1984 - 1986). There were no injuries - just a damaged truck.

Tomsyck > My truck, HQ64 from the front. Note the names stenciled on the bottom of the windshield: SSG Worrell was the supply sergeant back then. This was a great truck, the fastest in the Battalion (tuned by the motor pool) - which was important when on the Autobahn A81 between Heilbronn and Stuttgart for supply runs.

Tomsyck > Various shots from Priesterwald Kaserne in Heilbronn, which was merged with Schlieffen Kaserne after WWII to form Wharton Barracks. The 237th Engineer Battalion was housed in most of these buildings. Note that the photo in the upper right hand corner of this postcard is also posted in this gallery - the building that has the Heilbronn sign in front of it. Too bad that all of these buildings were torn down except for 2 of them - viewable on Google Maps.
